Physician's Resources: Post-Operative Management - Pain Pump

A pain pump is a non-electrical device that continuously delivers pain medication directly to the surgical site. The pain medications are administered through a small catheter. The catheter is inserted at the end of the surgery and is usually worn for a couple of days. Pain pumps are portable and are intended for use in the home environment. It can be worn anywhere that the pump will not get wet (bathing, swimming). The pain pump is for patient comfort as well as the decreased need for prescription pain medication.
